Combine customer files into one print job

A customer sends two pages as a PDF and another as a PNG. You can upload them together in Print Prepper, set the file order, and work through the resulting pages in one job. The output is one print PDF and one soft proof.

The useful distinction is between the order of the files and the pages inside them. You arrange the files before uploading. Each PDF’s pages then follow in their existing order.

Select the complete set of files

On New Prepress Job, choose your source files together. Supported types are PDF, PDF-compatible Illustrator, JPEG, PNG and TIFF; a selection can mix those types. An Illustrator file needs its PDF-compatible content, not just an .ai filename.

The upload accepts up to 20 files, 250 MB in total, with up to 200 pages in the job. Those limits are not a promise that every damaged, protected or unusually complex file can be processed. If a file is rejected, check the error before trying the batch again.

Choosing files again replaces the current selection. Include the full set you want in the job rather than choosing one file and expecting the next selection to append to it.

Put the files in reading order

Check the numbered list below the file picker. Use Move up and Move down to change a file’s position, or Remove to leave it out before uploading.

For example, a two-page PDF followed by a PNG becomes three pages: PDF page one, PDF page two, then the image. Move the PNG above the PDF and it becomes the first page, followed by the PDF’s two pages.

These controls reorder whole files. They do not move page two ahead of page one inside an existing PDF. If you need that arrangement, prepare the source PDF in the required order before uploading it. In a browser without the reorder controls, check the displayed selection order before continuing.

Use one job for one finished size

Choose the trim size, orientation, bleed and target DPI for the job, then select Queue Prepress Job. The merged pages share those job settings. Each page gets its own crop and editing controls afterward.

That makes a set of different flyer designs at the same finished size a sensible batch. A business card and an A2 poster need different trim sizes, so prepare them as separate jobs. Combining files does not preserve a different finished size for each page.

The usual Print Prepper processing still applies. This is not a way to preserve an editable Illustrator document or bypass rasterisation and the RGB output pipeline.

Check orientation and unwanted pages

At the crop stage, use the page tabs to inspect the merged document. A sideways page can be turned with Rotate left 90° or Rotate right 90°. Rotation affects that page only, keeps the job’s print size, and resets the page’s crop box. Check the framing again after the turn.

Use Delete page for a duplicate or a page that should not be printed. Confirm the removal only after checking the page number: that page will be excluded from both the print PDF and the soft proof. The original upload is kept, and at least one page must remain in the job. The remaining pages keep their relative order.

Deletion is not a substitute for rearranging pages, and keeping the original upload is not an undo button in this screen. Keep the source files until you have checked the finished document.

Review the combined result

Work through every remaining page before processing. Crop each to the intended content; use padding or an AI edit where that page needs one. An edit on one page does not correct the rest of the batch.

After processing, inspect the print PDF and soft proof for page count, order, orientation and content. The watermarked soft proof is for review; send the print PDF to the print workflow.

If the next step is repeating one of those pages across a sheet, open Imposition on the ready job. You choose one finished page to repeat. The other pages are not automatically added to the same sheet or treated as a reverse side.
